Frequently Asked Questions

I've compiled a list of frequently asked questions. I suspect that most Frequently Asked Questions on other websites merely come from visitors to that website. Admittedly, mine do not. I get such little traffic on this website -- even health facts on Twinkies boxes attract more interest than this website does. However, I felt compelled to include a Frequently Asked Questions page, and so I also felt compelled to have some answers to frequently asked questions, however contrived and unimaginative they may be.

If you have sent me an e-mail in the past and didn’t receive a response and you do not find an answer to your question below, then (1) it may still be rotting away in my inbox, neglected along with many the other e-mails (spam and the like), or (2) I don’t know the answer and am too ashamed to admit my ignorance on the subject, or (3) your question may have seemed so offensive to me that I thought it was rhetorical and so I didn’t respond. In any case, please accept my sincere apologies. If you wish to try again, contact me at  joe@gahimer.org.

Q1: This website is awesome! It’s so plain, so simple...so retro. It looks as if it was created back in the 80’s during the dawn of internet civilization when there was only one font available and e-mail was sent though teletype machines. How did you accomplish such a distinctive look when there are so many easy-to-use tools available that lead even the simplest of programmers to achieve fascinating multi-media effects? This website is truly one-of-a-kind. You have to search long and hard to find one that takes you back in time like this one does. How do you do it?

A1: Yes, that’s exactly the look I was going for -- thanks for noticing! Believe it or not I use NetObjects Fusion 8. But I have to admit that this “retro” look has less to do with the web development program and more to do with my lack of skill and creativity. And I know this stretches the mind beyond it’s ability to comprehend such impossible things, but yes, it has taken me hours and hours to achieve this look. I think I’m at the peak of my capabilities. It’s all downhill from here. I can assure you that I will continue this same (low) level of web authoring for years to come.

Q2: I notice that your sentence structure, spelling, and grammar are quite unique. What part of the world are you from, and where did you acquire such a raw, debased writing style?

A2: Thank you for your interest. I know it must seem that I have honed my literary craft to such a level so as to appear stilted and uneducated, but I can assure you that this writing style comes naturally for me. It’s not a regional dialect or an attempt to use slang to appear edgy. You see, I’m an engineer (need I say more) and so I left English behind decades ago. When I entered the technical workforce, it was a Rubicon for eventual illiteracy. What you see is the culmination of years of geek-ness and linguistic negligence, and the depravity of the english language that resulted. My writing is like a cipher and the meaning must be riddled and teased out. Good luck.
