Purpose

As you can tell by the lame placeholder images above, I’m just getting started in the construction of this website. I’m creating this site as a means to share some of the information and resources that I’m frequently asked to provide. Since I have a full-time day job, a family, and an active church life I have very little time to work on this website (so progress will be at a snail’s pace). With the website name, it’s likely that the only people who will venture to this website are those related to me, or those unfortunate souls who mis-typed their search words in Google and landed here by mistake. Since I’m a novice at website development, it’s a safe bet that this site will be very plain and lack all of the luster of most websites, even those created by elementary school children. So, once here, only the stoutest of heart will remain to explore the information that I’m providing. This website is dedicated to you. I hope you find the information that you’re seeking, or are sufficiently entertained by what I’ve presented or how poorly I’ve done it that you don’t consider this a complete waste of your valuable time.

I’ve provided my contact information at the bottom of this and every page so that those that feel bitterly wronged by the complete waste of their time on such a miserably constructed website can feel some satisfaction by sending me an abusing e-mail. If you send questions I’ll try to respond to those as quickly as I can -- but recall that I did mention that I’m very busy and so your e-mail may just sit in my inbox until the computer memory decays and there’s nothing left of your note to respond to. If I get recurring general questions I’ll post responses to those on the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page. If I don’t get any questions, then I’ll make some up so those that actually try that page don’t feel completely mis-led by the prospects of actually finding something there.

To prevent you from wasting any more time than you absolutely have to, I’ve provided a brief overview of what I intend to publish on the various pages of this site. But be warned that if you click them now you may find blank pages. If you check back in the future (a year, a decade) you might find that some words have assembled themselves onto the pages in a somewhat readable fashion that might be worth deciphering. If after reading the overview below you actually decide to throw caution to the wind and click on one of the other pages in this website, please accept my gratitude, my apologies, and my pity.

Gahimer History: This section will present the family history and genealogical information collected by my late father, Frederick H. Gahimer about his ancestors. After Dad retired he became very active in researching his genealogy and amassed a large amount of information. Upon his death, I became the care-taker of his work, and have begun publishing it in this section of my website. My dad grew up on a farm in Shelby County (SR 44 near the Shelby and Rush county line) with his parents, Carl and Mabel (Wagoner) Gahimer, and sisters Anna (Gahimer) John and Martha (Gahimer) Skillman.

Matthews History: This section will present the genealogical information of my mother’s ancestors collected by my father. My mother, Ethel (Matthews) Gahimer, grew up in Indianapolis with her parents, Herbert and Goldie (Reeder) Matthews, and mom’s siblings Jim Matthews, Mary (Matthews) Davies, Ann (Matthews) Dillane, Stan Matthews, Herbert (known as “Les”) Matthews, Betty (Matthews) Bogan, and Carl Matthews. My mom’s brother Stan died in service on the Scorpion submarine during World War II in the Yellow Sea near Korea. Dad was fascinated with the story of the Scorpion and the brave men who fought aboard her and he compiled a large work on the Scorpion history.

Mission Videos: My wife and children and I are members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Columbus, Indiana. I’m a member of the mission team and earlier this year participated in an International Medical Assistance (IMA) mission in Valladolid, Mexico. It was an awesome experience and I captured some of the memories in a short music video.
